Age-friendly Design
The core concept of elderly-friendly living space design

The core goal of the concept of elderly-friendly design for living Spaces is to ensure that the elderly can feel safe, comfortable and convenient in their daily lives. With the advent of an aging society, the design of living Spaces is not only about the combination of aesthetics and functionality, but also needs to pay attention to the special needs of the elderly, such as the decline in motor ability, sensory deterioration, and memory loss. The design of living space should take into account multiple aspects to enable the elderly to live freely, safely and comfortably at home.

The core goal
01.
Safety First/

Fall prevention design: Avoid using overly high thresholds or carpets to reduce the risk of falls.

Lighting design: Adequate lighting can prevent falls at night. Automatic sensor lights can be chosen. When the elderly walk around, the lights will automatically turn on to prevent them from getting dark.

Handrails and support facilities: In places such as bathrooms, corridors, and staircases where support is needed, design handrails that are ergonomic. The height and position of the handrails should be suitable for the use of the elderly, especially in slippery areas such as bathrooms and toilets.

Safety First/
02.
Barrier Free Design/

Spacious space: When designing, the passage needs of the elderly when using walking AIDS or wheelchairs should be taken into consideration. The width of the walkways and doors should be at least sufficient to accommodate the passage of wheelchairs or walkers. It is generally recommended that the width be 80cm or more.

Barrier-free access: There should be no high thresholds, obstacles or narrow Spaces indoors. Door frames, thresholds and stairs should all be avoided as much as possible. It is best to design a flat transitional ground or set up ramps, barrier-free elevators and other facilities.

Barrier Free Design/

Color and spatial sense: The color combination should be warm and soft, and overly bright or dazzling colors should be avoided. The spatial layout should have a sense of openness and avoid a feeling of being cramped and oppressive. The introduction of natural light can enhance the comfort of the space and ensure that the elderly can feel a spacious and bright living environment.
